The Source of Provisions in a Desert
Hardship hits people, nations, or the world at different times, leaving an impact that may threaten the survival of the people.
In times of crisis, people that were once comfortable may not have any more or perhaps not enough, and those that had little might probably struggle to get something to keep them alive. It is sometimes so sudden and unexpected that it becomes challenging to navigate that phase—a change that has threatened the life of many people.
It is like relocating to the desert, an area too poor to produce vegetation or a symbol of a time when nothing works anymore. It could be a time of famine, war, crisis, loss of any kind or a situation that brings significant change that affects people or one that robs them of all they have, know and cherish.
Moses, a leader of ancient Israel, found himself in a situation where he led multitudes that journeyed through the wilderness for many years. The weight of the responsibility was upon him, and the people needed food even when the situation or circumstances were not favourable or familiar.
The challenges around the world are similar to desert experiences for many. Some people were living comfortably fine but could no longer live as they used to do because of change—financial difficulties, economic uncertainties, health crisis, inflation, and many others. A change has brought many years of flourishing to a halt or perhaps a downward trend experience.
Many leaders have found themselves in the same position as Moses did, wondering if there is any hope in such a wilderness of life. It could be the worst many have experienced as a family, community or nation. Some people have heard or read similar stories but never imagined that those prints in history will receive life again to repeat themselves. Sadly, it has become an unexpected reality that has altered many lives.
Moses knew that there was help even in such seemingly impossible situations. It led to the provision for the needs of all the people he led. He told them what to do—they heeded his instructions and benefited from the supplies to meet their needs.
It may look like a desert—dry and unfruitful time. It may seem everything is heading south, contrary to expectations for the season of life, but there is help; there is hope.
There is help for every situation and circumstance, but many people do not seek it. I hope leaders at various levels will take responsibility to bring about change in challenging times.
There is hope for you to move from where you are to a greater tomorrow. Many have survived and recovered from similar challenges. You do not have to finish where you are. You can keep moving as you seek help and understand what to do. Do not give up; seek help and initiate the change for a better tomorrow.
