They Knew it; Do you? Part 2

The Seasons of More and Less

Many things can change, but not everyone knows when or what will change. It is often true that some people only face the pleasant or unpleasant effects when the change occurs.

Some people may not struggle to meet their needs today, but how many of them know or are ready for what would happen in the years to come.

They are probably fine today, but change may affect them tomorrow—the unexpected.

In times of crisis, some people have money, but they cannot buy what they need either because of restrictions or the scarcity of items. It is also possible that some others cannot afford the money to buy—even when the items are available.  The lack of resources could be probably due to loss of income or disruption to their income generation process.

What if they knew before, would that information help?

Joseph of primaeval Israel knew ahead of time that there would be seven years of abundance and that seven years of famine would follow straight afterwards. He communicated the information, implications and solution to the ruler in Egypt.

What would you do if you knew such things?

Can it make a difference to your situation?

It certainly did make a difference in this case as the ruler acted upon the information; he appointed Joseph to oversee a plan to save the country from the famine ahead.

It was successful, and the nation had enough to eat and sell even when the challenging times came.

There are lessons to learn that could help the way we live. It seems that there will always be seasons of more; when there is plenty, abundance, boom, successes—everything going fine and beyond expectation. It appears that there are also times or seasons of less; when there is scarcity, not as much, setbacks, challenges—not all going as expected or not yielding as anticipated. Everyone will face such, but it is possible to change the effect of the season on one, even if you could not change the season.

The whole nation enjoyed enough food supplies—even though there was famine. It was because they foreknew, acted and planned accordingly.

It seems that it is not necessarily the season that affects you but possibly your reaction to the season. What you do in the time of boom may affect what happens to you in times of scarcity. Your attitude to success may affect your life when you fail. What you do in a time of peace may affect the time of unrest.

What you do when you are strong may affect you when you are weak. Your lifestyle when you are healthy may contribute to the state of your health when you are poorly. Your attitude when you are in a position of authority may contribute to your challenges when you no longer have the privilege.

Your actions on a job may affect your opportunities when there are jobs shortages. Your reaction to abundance may affect you when there is scarcity. The way you treat more may affect what you have when there is less.

Joseph knew this; he took advantage of it and saved a nation. He knew a time was coming in the future when the situation would not be as great as it was at the time. He encouraged the people not to eat all their harvest but save some for the future. They listened and heeded the advice—they all survived the challenging times.

Joseph knew, he told the ruler and the people. They all knew something about the future; it made them change their action. It saved them and the people surrounding them.

What is it that you do not know that has brought you into crisis?

I hope you will find it and work towards a change that will bring desired results.
