They Knew it; Do you? Part 14

Embrace the Unknown

Have you lost something and wondered if there is still a need to endeavour? Are you weary because it seems everything you attempt leads to more losses? Have you been affected by an unprecedented change and find it difficult to take the next step?

There is hope for every challenge and a way out of every situation. Do you know the way forward?

“The time of difficulty is a dark hour that requires light to change the situation.”

Elimelek of Bethlehem relocated to Moab from Judah because of famine. He left with his wife Naomi and two sons. Sadly, he died there, leaving only his wife and the sons. The sons, Mahlon and Kilion, got married to two women from Moab called Orpah and the other Ruth and continued to live their lives. They lived together for another ten years, but sadly the two sons also died.

Naomi lost not only her husband but also her two sons. It was a difficult situation for her and also for her daughters-in-law. She decided to embark on a ten thousand mile journey back home and advised her daughters-in-law to go back to their homes; perhaps they would have another chance to find fulfilment and be happily married.

One of them left after persuasion, but the other refused to leave her mother-in-law. Orpah left; Ruth decided to stay with her and journeyed with her back home. It was a difficult time for all of them plus there was no promise of certainty in the future. The decision she made during the period of uncertainty brought significant changes to her life. She found new opportunities that brought about joy and fulfilment. It was not a sad ending but a happy one.

“You will not see the end when you start, you only see the next few steps”

What did she see? What did she know?

The time of difficulty is a dark hour that requires light to change the situation. You may be covered with darkness or walking in the dark; with a torch in your hand, you can go far. You will not see very far all at once, but as you continue to move one step at a time from where you are, you will discover that you are making progress.

The light shines on your path as your move farther; you can go as far as you want if you continue. You will not see the end when you start, you only see the next few steps, and the next until you get to your destination.

You may not move from where you are if you want to see the end—if you desire to know it all before you take the first step. I hope you would be encouraged not to quit too soon; begin to move in the right direction and enjoy every step of the way.
