There are a lot of people that profess they have secrets that allegedly could transform in no time. Some could be a one-time event that carries the promise of an overnight turnaround. It could be a magic formula that instantly changes any situation for the best. Some could be a one-time action that could make a billionaire out of any poor man within the twinkling of an eye. It is all about one change to greatness. It may be one activity to become famous or prosperous. It could be one life-changing event or one lucky win to become the greatest—a one-size-fits all one formula for becoming rich.
Understandably, everyone desires to get to their destination as fast as possible. Yes, if I can get there in 10 minutes, why should I get there in 10 hours? If you could in 5 days while should you in 5 years?
The sense of speed has made some things work much faster than they did in previous years, as we see in technologies used in cars, computers, trains, and aeroplanes. I wonder if the application is feasible in every area of life.
It may seem like a good application, but the problem is that the results are not usually the same in all cases. You can always try to make things faster, but the result may provide some opportunities to learn. Have you ever considered the outcomes of such attempts?
You may also have discovered that some people are not good at counting the time it takes for other people to reach their goals. They often equate the years it takes to succeed to the time they see it, not when they started.
For instance, a baby is born about nine months after pregnancy. However, the age of the child usually starts from the day of delivery. The baby already has gone through nine months of growth—not visible but necessary. The size at delivery is unattainable without the nine months in the womb. The success of a one-month-old baby is not just what happened within the one month after delivery. It is one month plus x, where x is the time for the preceding period of growth.
The baby continues to grow one day at a time, eating, drinking and engaging in the necessary activities for each stage of life. The baby starts with liquid like water or milk, then semi-solid, later moving to solid food, strong meat or bones. It is a gradual process. The babies that get help to continue to progress doing the relevant activities for ten years from birth will eventually become ten years old, having the stature of a ten-year-old. They do not have to desire it, they only need to do what is required daily, and one day guests will attend the tenth birthday party.
The same is true in most cases. You have to keep following the process every day for ten years—you cannot make it faster. A baby cannot be ten years old in one year, no matter how much the baby eats.
You cannot produce a ten-year-old baby in one year by feeding the baby ten servings per meal. If you succeed for a few hours, the baby will not last for another day. You can achieve the result by giving the appropriate portion per day, allowing it to do its work. It is called growth.
Many people desire to be in the fast lane but suffer the consequences of a baby fed ten times more, expecting a ten-year-old result. It could be destructive and frustrating. You will achieve more by doing daily the appropriate portion and watch the results come in at the right time.
I read the story of a lottery player that won twenty-seven million pounds. The EuroMillions winner was on state benefit, as she was not working when she scooped the jackpot. She was found dead at her home, suspected to have committed suicide. She said before her death that the money has brought nothing but grief and that it destroyed her life. It seems like a case of a zero that became a hero but could not sustain the status for a long time.
Can you imagine an attempt to produce the world’s quickest ten-year-old? It would be a struggle to feed a baby in one day, the equivalent amount of food that a child eats until ten. The result is undeniable. You will not get a ten-year-old—you will lose the baby.
The process of growing is significant as it helps build the structure and systems that support greatness. The greatness that happens could easily collapse because of the weakness of the supporting structure and systems. Following a proper plan of growth helps to build maturity that supports the weight of the great future.
Everyone has the power to grow to the fullness of their potential. The way to do it is to do what you should do one day at a time.
There is a plan for everyone, and it is possible to attain to best of you, but follow the right path and appropriate process each day. You will soon discover that one day you will be celebrated as you continue with focus. It is often true that despising the process of maturity and development may not be a good idea—growth matters.
