Finding Help in times of need -Part 5

Search for help.

The needs of human beings are diverse, and the solutions required by each one can be variant. There are also various needs in different areas of the life of an individual, which also requires assistance. It is challenging for some, probably confusing and daunting for some others. There are probably a few that do not even have any clue. Have you found yourself in such a position of need? Have you considered all your various and complex needs and only become more frustrated and confused? Have you tried, but it is not getting any better, but it has become worse? Many may be able to relate to this position. A lot of people have been there. What do you do when you are in need and do not know what to do?

The challenges of life could be overwhelming. It may be easier for some than others. There are times you could be in a situation you have never witnessed before, where you have no idea of what to do, neither do you know where to turn. What do you do?

It may be new to you, but it may not be the same for everyone else as they may have some information or experience that you lack. Almost eight billion people are living in the world today, across races, cultures, and nationalities. The world is full of people like you and me. They face similar life challenges and experiences. It may not always be the same, but it is not uncommon either. Some of the things you are going through must have happened to someone that is living or has lived.

Most often than not, many look for answers only in their comfort zone. They seek assistance only from those that look like them. They explore only the familiar things, and believe anything without verification. It may have been a good idea with reasons, and probably a safe strategy for some people, but it has become for some others the end of their search and termination of their hope. They lost hope in finding help and made permanent resolutions because of their temporary circumstances.

It is one thing to recognise your need, but it is another to know where and how to get the help you need. Every question has an answer; every problem has a solution. You may not know the answer, but that does not mean there is none. The truth is that you do not yet know and probably do not know who knows. There are answers as well as solutions, but you need to search for them until to find what you need.

It is a burden to search for answers or solutions. Many people have done so with a significant part of their lives. The world is privileged to have such rich resources which are available for the benefit of all. Today, it would be fair to say; it would be quicker to find such answers than it was many years ago. You may not need to search too long before you get what you need, but you still need to invest time in an issue-oriented search for answers.

The search for answers also comes with another problem, which is knowing whether or not it is right. Many answers are available, but not all are true. You may discover that as far as your situation is concerned, they are not apposite. You not only need the answers, but one that is right for you.

Some people have allergic reactions to nuts, for instance. It has been very severe in some cases. Some would never believe that the food they loved so much could be the reason for their tragedy. They thought it would be everything else but that ‘good thing’ they love to eat. Some found help, and they got relevant information on what to do to overcome it, and some others avoided it when they understood it was the reason for their reactions. You can see two different approaches to the same problem. It depends on where you turn for help.

I have come across some people that have prolonged health issues. They have attempted all medical advice and tried everything that comes to their mind, but all to no avail. A search for answers revealed it was the presence of gluten in their diet. It was liberating, but it was not one of those things they would have thought of, but unfortunately that is the cause of the problem. Interestingly, so many others have the same problem and have been suffering under the same conditions until they also found the solution. There are still yet many others suffering from the same issues, but are still about to stumble on this discovery. They continue in frustration as they seek help in the wrong places and make the wrong decisions.

Some time ago, I observed with excitement in one of our local stores, a whole aisle stocked up with only gluten-free products. It is the answer to some peoples questions, the help to someone’s need. There are so many people suffering from challenges of life that they do not understand, and those around them also cannot figure it out. It is like the allergies, if you do not understand, or know what to do; you will get more frustration going to the wrong places or trying to solve the problem with your limited knowledge.

An American psychologist, Abraham Maslow once said; ‘If the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail.’ You may have found this to be true. Trying to solve every problem the same way is the simple reason for the frustration of many. You need to search for the help that takes into account the uniqueness or peculiarity of the situation. If you go to the wrong person, you will get the wrong counsel. It may have worked for him but could be bad for you.

Everyone is searching for help for their different challenges; it is not just the help, but one that matches their peculiar need.

An expert mechanic that offers to help with brain damage may put you in danger. A pilot that offers to help a farmer having problems with infestation may run him into more loses. A nurse trying to advise on legal issues may put you in trouble. A chef willing to help in a medical surgery to correct a physical deformity is likely to magnify the pain. They are all experts in their field but may not have enough expertise or experience to help you in the area of your need. It is a good idea to learn to discern and to choose what is right for you.

Your needs may be different, and as such you may have tried all you know, and there seems to be no hope. Do not die in silence. Do not give up yet, search, do some research, explore, gather facts and make right and informed decisions based on your discovery. Help may be closer than you ever imagined.

To be continued next week, don’t miss it.
