Copy Right -Understanding the art of learning from others -Part 1

Introduction

Our world, with over 7.8 billion people living and many more that have died; gives us a substantial opportunity to see examples of what we could become in people that are living or have lived. One or more of these people have influenced our lives one time or the other.

Yes, we copy what we see some other people do from the day we are born. It could be our parents, guidance, teachers, leaders, relatives, mentors, or friends. We could also copy those who are far away from us by reading, listening or watching them through the different media available. We consciously or unconsciously become like those we copy or those we learn from in some ways.

The influence of things we copy and people we learn from is quite powerful. It has a considerable impact, and it could make a significant difference in what we eventually become.

Have you ever paused to ask yourself, why do you do what you do? Why do you do it in a certain way?

You may have noticed a baby that feels excited about touching the contents of a soiled nappy while being changed and if the baby succeeds could further attempt to put it through the mouth and taste it. The adults around may have a repulsive feeling about the reaction of the baby. The baby, however, does not share that feeling at that time because the baby knows no better. As the baby grows older, the reaction is different. It is likely to be similar to those around at this time. It is because the baby learned from those around.

A child may be irritated by the idea of tasting or eating an earthworm picked up from a garden. It is because the child has been influenced by those around. It may have shaped how the child decides what to eat or not to eat. If everyone around reacts in a certain way and do not eat it, it might become acceptable to the child as a good behaviour. The baby, however, still in the process of learning will not react in the same way as the baby will receive it with excitement and be happy to taste it.

What you do and how you do it could be as a result of what you have learnt from someone else consciously or unconsciously. We all copy because we have all learnt from someone, just like the baby that was guided by someone that helped develop a sense of hygiene and many other lessons.

As we grow, we have numerous opportunities to learn from different people, and we desire to copy, but sometimes we may not have achieved the same or our desired result.

How can we learn from others without losing our own identity or peculiarity? How can we learn from others and still be who we are? How can we copy and not lose focus of what we are to do?

How can receive input from other people without destroying the reason for our existence? How do we decide what we learn from other people? How do we choose what we can or cannot copy? How do we ascertain that what we copy is right for us?

Like everything we do in life, we can also get it wrong; this has been the reason for so many unpleasant changes in many people.

What we learn right or wrong eventually become what forms our beliefs, habits, routines, perception, views and lifestyle.

I will like to share some tips that could help to learn from other people. That is what I consider under the title Copy Right; the art of learning from others to help you become the best of the person you are to be and not a copy of someone else.

To be continued next week, don’t miss it.
