I once met a man that desired to play a stringed musical instrument called the harp. He liked it and could see himself playing with other musicians in the future. He bought a very good one, but after many years he never became a player, neither did he realise the dream of playing with others. Do you know why? He did not commit to what he believed.

I discovered that the time that elapsed did not make him a player. The cost of the expensive instrument did not make him one. The desire did not help achieve the goal. The plans he had for the future was not strong enough. The initial or first step he took to show his interest was not strong enough to get him where he desired. Something more was needed, but unfortunately, neglected.

The location of the harp the last time he commented about it was in the loft—stored out of sight for safekeeping with no intention of regular use. You can also tell the future of the dream or desire if nothing changes.

There are so many times we have great dreams and desires. We know what to do, we understand the steps, but we fail to commit to it. We refuse to give it what it takes—we fail to do what is needful.

You know that exercise is good, so you bought a treadmill but never went on it. You appreciate that a healthy diet is good for you, so you purchased the recipe and materials to help achieve your goal but never cooked or ate the food. You bought a bicycle to help you keep fit but never rode on it. You made a plan to save money but never started. You decided on lifestyle changes to improve your life, but you failed to take the necessary steps. The decision is not enough; you must learn to commit to your decision.

You had a baby but never invested time to train or nurture. You got admission to study your favourite course but never committed to reading the relevant materials. You got the job you always dreamt about but never committed to it. You started a business but are unwilling to do what is required to make it grow. The beginning may be great but does not necessarily determine the outcome—what you commit to does.

What you do determines what you become and what you are convinced about determines what you do. In other words, what you believe in determines what you become.

If you have found the truth, act on it because that is the only way it becomes a reality in your life. If you have not, search for it till you find it and commit to the truth you have found. It is your commitment that makes it come true for you. Learn to act on what you believe—that is the proof that you truly believe.
