Trustworthy
Do you know one thing a wise builder will look for in a building block? I believe it is a trusted brand, among other things.
It is a quality that assures you that the material can be relied upon to do the work—it was expected or designed to do. When you can guarantee trust, you can safely install the block and go to sleep. It can be as easy as that; you are sure because you know and have proof that it will work. It does not matter whether people are there to see it or not—it does the job.
Some years ago, we bought a set of kitchenware from a manufacturer with a twenty-five years warranty. I was particularly interested in the promise for that long period, so I tested the product to see if I could prove them wrong. I put the items through different use cases for a period to test their strength and durability, but they were still intact and did not change. I eventually realised why the manufacturer had so much confidence in their product that they decided to guarantee that it would still work for the designed purpose even after twenty-five years of usage.
It is crucial to note that most great people want to work with someone predictable and reliable. They want to know that they will not change or become undependable when they need them the most. It is the quality of trust.
Many manufacturers provide a warranty for their products. It is a symbol of trust because it shows they are willing to put their name on the line to guarantee that the product will work. If it does not, they are ready to take total responsibility, which could mean that they will pay all related expenses for the replacement or to rectify any problem.
“You have the potential to affect and impact many lives when you are trusted but less likely when you are not.”
Many well-known brands earned a name in their relevant industries because of a consistent record of trust demonstrated in the reliability and effectiveness of their products. Many new ones will do well to follow the same path to build a name or brand that people can trust.
Trust is a crucial block in life. You may never have the privilege of some opportunities without it. It is like funds in a bank account, you can add more or withdraw from it, but when it is empty, it is not a good place at all for anyone. For some people, several acts or even only one can empty their account to make them bankrupt. You should purposely protect and maintain the funds in the bank of trust.
Everyone desires to work with trustworthy people, whether in a team, community, government cabinet, organisation, business venture, or professional group.
If you decide to buy a new car and after six weeks it does not work anymore or fails—you cannot be sure it will work well or complete a trip. Your trust in the product will diminish, and you will tell others about it. The effect is that you will not buy that brand anymore, and neither will anyone that knows about its untrustworthiness. If, on the other hand, the car was reliable without any issues, working as expected; you are likely to recommend it to others and also patronise them again.
If you lose trust, you are losing more than you can imagine. If you have lost it already, no one has confidence in you anymore, perhaps in your family, relationships, community, nation, profession, workplace, or as a leader once revered. You will need a fresh start—put funds back into the account of trust until you have sufficient funds, such that people can gain the confidence they lost in you.
You have the potential to affect and impact many lives when you are trusted but less likely when you are not. You can do yourself and your generation a favour by choosing to be worthy of the trust of other people.
