A Note from pressure

You may have discovered that nobody desires to be in a situation that is not comfortable. However, it seems that there is an energy that kicks in some circumstances that make people do more than they think they could.

Have you ever done something that you would not have done except for a situation that forced you to do it? It could be simple things that you could do but rather not because you feel you can continue without it or do it later.

A mother may decide to postpone cleaning the floor to a convenient time. She has valid reasons for her decision, but that soon changes when her little child pours some sticky substance over it, making it difficult for anyone to move around without making the situation worse. Most often than not, you will find that she would fix the issue as a priority. Something made it possible at that time—it would probably not have gotten that attention.

Many people have had the privilege of stepping up to a role that they never thought they were cable of assuming, but some situations made it so. A manager that called in sick would probably make room for his assistance to step up into that role with short notice. The position of an employee that suddenly resigns in a busy workplace may have to be filled temporarily by someone else. The new personnel may have to learn many things and deal with many situations—some of them may be unfamiliar territory. Interestingly, some come out of such experiences believing they can, others reassured they can, while some may not make the best of such opportunities.

There was a man that once walked through the path of a cemetery to get home. One day, as he journeyed the same way at night, he fell into a hole dug for a burial that was to happen the following day. He tried to get out but to no avail. Tired and worn out after a long day’s job, he decided to stay there till the morning as he may probably get help. As he resigned to faith in the quiet of the night, he thought he tried his best. He later discovered that he was wrong.

Another man travelled the same path, but he was drunk coming from the pub, also trying to journey home. He also fell into the same hole. He was mumbling and taken over by the effect of alcohol. The other man heard the sound and knew something had fallen into the pit. It was huge. He remembered that it was a cemetery—he thought wild within a short period and could not imagine what it could be. He did not waste any more time. He decided to try again immediately and not later. He gathered the strength to get out; he mustered all the energy left, jumped out and ran without looking back. He never thought he could, but the situation made him realise he could.

One lady returned home from work after a busy working day. She complained she was tired and exhausted and could not do anything for the family. It was not too long that her husband whispered in her ears that the sales of her favourite store for clothing at the city centre would end in the next two hours. Something happened instantly. It seemed that some energy came from nowhere to empower her to do the impossible. She made her way to the city to make the purchases and brought them home without help. Her husband did not believe his eyes.

Sometimes we ignore some things in our lives and give excuses not to do them when it is possible if we decide to do them. You can choose to go out of your comfort zone to do what is necessary before pressure forces you.

You may have ignored many opportunities or things you could not seemingly do because you want to be comfortable. You may have discovered that the situation changes under pressure, especially when you run out of options, you suddenly find that you can comfortably manage the situation.

You may not believe you can, but sometimes difficulties provide such opportunities to help you accept. It only proves that you can if you want to, but the choice was not strong enough.

If many are willing to do what they do during challenging situations more often, they would probably have discovered something that can make them better than they are today.

You do not have to wait for pressure to do what can benefit your life and future—be willing to pay the price and go it.

You could imagine pressure as a friend that helps you improve by going the extra mile, and afterwards handing you a note that says, ‘I know you will never do it, but I set that up for your advantage because I believe that you can do it, and you did it.’ Believe you can and act because you can.
